The Firearms Act 1996 is the piece of legislation which prescribes the main offences relating to firearms, dangerous articles and explosives in New South Wales, as well as a range of licencing requirements.
The Act contains a offences relating to, among other things, the unauthorised possession and use of firearms and prohibited firearms, the possession, supply and production of dangerous articles and explosives, and, together with the Firearms Regulation 1996, prescribes rules relating permits, licensing, transporting, altering, advertising, safe-keeping and supplying firearms in New South Wales, as well as the rules relating to Firearm Prohibition Orders.
