You are not normally legally required to participate in a police interview in New South Wales, and you should always exercise your right to silence and decline to participate until and unless you have first consulted a lawyer.
You are also not normally required to enter the interview room at the police station to have the allegations put to you.
If you are asked to enter the interview room for that purpose, you should politely decline and state that you will not be participating in any form of interview.
There are, however, limited circumstances in which you are required to participate, including where you are under arrest for certain terrorism-related offences.
Police are required to inform you if this is the case and warn you that failing to participate could amount to a criminal offence.
