Hoax by mail is an offence under section 471.10 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth), which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison
To establish the offence, the prosecution must prove beyond reasonable doubt that:
(a) The article consisted of, enclosed or contained an explosive or dangerous or harmful substance or thing, or
(b) An explosive or dangerous or harmful substance or thing had been or would be left in any place
