Palestinian Children

The United Nations-established independent commission that published a 2025 report confirming that Israel is perpetrating genocide in Gaza last week released a new report detailing that Israel has been intentional killing Palestinian children, which is a deliberate tactic being employed by Tel Aviv in its attempt to exterminate the population of the Strip and also the West Bank.

The June 2026 report finds that the Israeli state’s deliberate targeting of children in Gaza over the period 7 October 2023 to 7 October 2025 had seen at least 20,179 children murdered by the Israeli Defence Forces, with a further 44,143 kids having been injured by that nation. And the dead children constitute 30 percent of those slain by Israel in its attempt to exterminate this population.

The tactics employed by the Israeli Defence Forces against children have included the intentional targeting, arrest and ill-treatment of Palestinian kids, and has further involved “sexual and gender-based violence, attacks on educational facilities and healthcare and the conditions imposed in the Occupied Palestinian Territory which directly affect children”.

So, the focus is not just on the immediate destruction of children but also on the long-term harming of the overall people.

“Israel has targeted Palestinian children in Gaza in two distinct ways,” the report authors were able to conclude, which involves either “directly by shooting at their vital organs using precision weapons such as quadcopters and snipers” or the “use of high impact weapons causing widespread and systematic attacks on residential buildings, schools and displacement camps crowded with children”.

The report too confirms that despite the October 2025 Gaza ceasefire, Israel continues its purposeful slaughter of Palestinian kids, and the yellow line of demarcation that was established on ceasefire, which had left 53 percent of the Strip in Israeli control, has shifted so it now occupies 64 percent and the intention to ethnically cleanse the remaining Palestinian population appears to remain.

Destroying the sanctity of childhood

The independent commission outlines that as an “occupying force” in the Palestinian Territory, Israel has an international obligation to protect Palestinian children, but instead of this, the IDF is deliberately targeting, murdering and inflicting severe bodily and mental harm on thousands of Palestinian children, to the point that it has irreparably destroyed “the sanctity of childhood”.

The destruction of the children of Gaza is intended to wipe out Palestinian life in the Strip, specifically because “children embody the biological and social continuity of the group”, and the commission declares it has “reasonable grounds to conclude that these acts form part of a deliberate strategy to destroy the future of the Palestinians in Gaza by targeting their children”.

The crime of genocide comprises of five types of “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group”, which includes killing members of the group, causing them serious bodily harm, inflicting conditions calculated to bring about the group’s destruction, imposing measures to prevent births and the forcible removal of children.

The independent commission released a report in September last year outlining that Tel Aviv has been conducting the four initial genocidal acts listed above upon the Palestinian population of Gaza.

The current report finds that the killing of children continues to take place after the October 2025 ceasefire was established in Gaza, and this includes when children approach the demarcation line. The inquiry commissioners underscore that this shows “flagrant disregard for the ceasefire” and it means that the area around the yellow line has become a “death trap, particularly for children”.

Due to Israel’s targeted aggression against them, Palestinian children now living with a disability has become “a defining demographic reality” for that generation and this assault has further caused a crisis of orphans, whilst Palestinian adolescent boys, in particular, have been detained, tortured and ill-treated apparently in order to allay any threat they might pose in the future.

Israel has used sexual violence as a tactic of its war on kids. Israel has targeted hospitals and healthcare facilities that provide care to children, including newborn babies. The state’s starvation program has left many children with “acute and chronic malnutrition”.

Israel has destroyed the education of a generation of Palestinian children, whilst IDF soldiers have glorified in the dehumanisation of them.

Ethnic cleansing the Strip

Outside of the mainstream, the legitimacy of the October 2025 Trump-brokered Gaza ceasefire is not taken seriously, due to the fact Tel Aviv has continued to kill Palestinian people on a daily basis, with the only difference being that the murder has slowed down. Yet, the UN Security Council passed a resolution endorsing US president Donald Trump’s peace plan last November.

The ceasefire was not established by the UN, but rather it is the work of Trump’s newly created Board of Peace. The ceasefire agreement has seen Hamas abide by its terms, whilst Israel has simply continued on with its killing. And as Drop Site News reported last week, negotiations over recent months have focused on the disarming of the Palestinian resistance.

Drop Site News has obtained a document from Palestinian negotiators and another from the Board of Peace’s high representative Nickolay Mladenov, which taken together reveal that the board is trying to erode any attempts towards Palestinian statehood and treating Gaza and the West Bank as a single entity, as well as seeking to abolish the right of the Palestinian people to resist.

The report further outlines that Israeli negotiators have been introducing more conditions into the ceasefire agreement, which insist that the Palestinians disarm prior to any reconstruction of the area commencing and before the IDF withdraws from Gaza. Yet, Israel has violated the ceasefire more than 3,300 times since last October, whilst Palestinian forces have stuck to its obligations.

The National Committee for Gaza Administration is a technocratic body composed of nonpartisan Palestinian experts supposed to serve as a transitional governing authority prior to elections being held across Palestinian territory. But it is now rather being framed by the Board of Peace as an entity that will be working for it, after Hamas and other factions have relinquished power and disarmed.

So, the overall impression is that Israel is refusing to pull out of the Gaza Strip and is rather encroaching upon more of its territory, as it continues to violate the ceasefire and kill Palestinians, with the ultimate aim of taking full control of all the land, whilst eroding the path to Palestinian self-determination and statehood.

Global intervention needed

The 23 June 2026 released report of the independent commission was authored by current commissioners Srinivasan Muralidhar from India, Florence Mumba, who represents Zambia, and Australia’s Chris Sidoti. The commission has delivered multiple reports on the situation regarding the plight of the Palestinians under the Israeli system of apartheid since its inception in May 2021.

The commissioners made sixteen recommendations for the state of Israel to undertake in their new report, which includes implementing the three sets of measures to prevent genocide that the International Court of Justice issued it with in the first half of 2024.

The report further issues a string of recommendations related to the crimes Israel is perpetrating against Palestinian children, including upholding the rights of the child, ending arbitrary detention of them, ensuring that children are tried in civilian courts, publishing the data on child detainees and releasing the bodies of children to their families.

But ultimately, 33 months into Israel’s commission of the Gaza genocide, and its ongoing mass slaughter of children, those governing the nation aren’t going to bring an end to its ongoing killing spree, which it has now expanded into southern Lebanon, and as the press release relating to the report asserts, the rest of the planet needs to intervene to bring this barbarity to an end.

“The international community as a whole must uphold their international legal obligations and call for an end to the hostilities, for Israel to end its occupation and to prioritise accountability and access to justice for victims as an integral component of any political process, grounded in the meaningful participation of Palestinians, including children,” the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights ended.
