The Liberals (White) Australian Values Immigration Policy Is Racist Ethnonationalism

White Australia and Liberals

Federal Liberal “leader” Angus Taylor delivered a despicably racist, ethnonationalist migration policy speech on Tuesday, 14 April 2026. This desperate politician, whose status as opposition leader is in freefall, demonised what’s dubbed “our migrant community”, he called for immigration based on (white) “Australian values”, and the danger in this spectacle was the sentiment, not Taylor’s flaccidity.

The Liberals new immigration policy, as delivered, posits there is an enemy within, and it stems from the Muslim community, and this wouldn’t be an issue if migrants came from “liberal democracies”, or the West. Perhaps the most menacing part of the proposal is the heightening of the deportation regime relating to people living here, and it also involves scanning the social media of visa applicants.

According to Taylor, the growing rejection of mainstream Australian politics, like his, is due to past bad, but then reasonable, migration policy decisions, and this sentiment has had nothing to do with the way the Australian major parties have responded to the Gaza genocide, or to put it another way, if Australia was pure white, the population would be revelling in the blood of Palestinian babies.

“The door will be shut to people who want to import the hatred and violence of other places to Australia,” said Taylor, as he attempted the Trumpian shtick, but appeared like he was in an early 2000s Liberal promotional advertisement. “There must never be another tragedy like we saw at Bondi Beach,” he added.

Incidentally, John Howard was at the Menzies Research Centre, located on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land in Canberra, as Taylor delivered his diatribe, and the former prime minister had too once spoken similarly about ending gun-related massacres in 1996, after white Australian enemy within Martin Bryant murdered 35 people on palawa land at Port Arthur.

The most distressing thing about Taylor’s speech is that his ailing party has now set an extremely low bar for local politics, and that is the (white) Australian values migration policy and deportation drive, which is the Trump White House agenda articulated locally.

But the problem for the Liberals is Labor is already on this path, and the growing white nationalist movement finds Pauline Hanson and Barnaby Joyce much sexier options as leaders, than Angus Taylor.

Taylor’s multicultural hellscape

In practical terms, so far, the Liberal’s “Australian Values Migration Plan” has been a gratuitous display of dog whistling. Much of its proposals are not new, but they are of enhanced viciousness, and what Taylor has succeeded in doing is taking Australian politics to the precipice of an outright call for the return of the White Australia policy.

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation has surged in the polls over the course of 2026, so that the long-time racist, white nationalist party is now garnering enough support to put it in opposition, and this has undoubtedly fostered the Liberals current race to the bottom

The Liberals position on immigration considers numbers are “too high” and the 1950s “ethos” of “assimilation” has been lost. Ideas about “diversity being our strength” and a “successful multicultural society” are fallacies, suggested Taylor. And he then raised the UK and Europe as having similar problems, yet they’re not settler colonial nations with a Black history and present.

According to Taylor, “migrants fall into two categories”: “those of noble and patriotic intent” and “the migrant of subversive intent”. In fact, the migrant of subversive intent “rejects our way of life” and also harbours “transactional intent”. And because of past major party governments “migrants of subversive intent” have flooded the country.

The “ramifications of an immigration system where standards have eroded” are “the Bondi Beach terrorist attack”, “radical Islamic preachers espousing hate with impunity”, “genocidal marches in major cities” and “antisemitism across Australian communities”.

The fact that this guy describes the ongoing protests against the genociding of Palestinians in Gaza, our fellow human beings, as “genocidal” is stooping pretty low.

The Liberal leader also called out the refugees who have escaped the genocide in Gaza to demonise these traumatised people.

In continuing to scrape the bottom of the barrel, Taylor described how some migrants of subversive intent actually reject hate and violence, but also “reject our core values”, such as equality between sexes. These migrants want to establish a parallel legal system too, and they reject freedom of speech, association and religion. And some of these people are Islamic extremists.

Discriminatory immigration par excellence

The Liberal’s new vision of Australian immigration will not discriminate against migrants on the basis of “nationality, race, gender, or faith”, but rather, in accordance to values.

Migrants “are taking us for a ride”, Taylor continued. Those applying for a visa for this country do have to “sign the Australian Values Statement”, but they’re just treating it like a “tick-box exercise”. So, the Liberals are going to make the Australian Values Statement a “legally binding and enforceable visa condition for all temporary and permanent visa holders”.

Migrants who undermine democratic values, don’t respect the law, or “our core values”, would be deported under this system. Long-standing noncitizens, or residents, who, despite breaking the law remain here, will be “booted out”, including some who remain for special reasons, like longevity. “Time and ties,” as Taylor put it, “are no testament to loyalty to Australia”.

“A centrepiece of the Australian Values Statement is that English is our national language. English is necessary to live, work and integrate into Australian society,” the bigoted politician continued. “The Coalition will make learning English an obligation for permanent visa holders – not an option.”

Taylor recalled that migrants working with his grandfather on the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme could speak English.

The Liberals would further implement a “Safe Country List to end frivolous protection claims”, which means that if a migrant is fleeing persecution in a nation that is on the list, their claim will “be inadmissible”, because their country will have been “deemed generally free from persecution”.

A “Joint Agency Taskforce” will be established to hunt down those who have overstayed visas to deport them. Temporary protection visas will be reintroduced, as the idea of permanency “encourages abuse of the system”. Migrants caught up in this process will not be able to seek Legal Aid either, as the Liberals want to strip all “taxpayer-funded support” from all but citizens.

And lastly, the guy in the blue suit and polka dot tie is proposing to establish “an Enhanced Security Screening Centre” that will include “the full suite of intelligence, screening, and enforcement capabilities” to “stop radicals, extremists, and terrorists from entering,” and this will include scrolling through Facebook, Instagram or whatever other social media platform visa applicants may post on.

Inconsistent with modern Australian values

“The Coalition’s immigration policy would be a Trumpian assault on our civil liberties. Vetting social media and making vague ‘values’ a binding visa condition is a poor attempt at cover for the Coalition to shamefully discriminate against the migrants they do not like,” said NSW Council for Civil Liberties president Timothy Roberts.

“This terrible vision for Australia is steeped in racism and a call back to a dark part of our history that we should be ashamed of and seek to learn from, so it never happens again, not a vision that we should replicate,” continued the respected lawyer, who was quick to pushback against the racist tirade the Liberal Party unleashed.

The NSWCCL warns that Taylor’s performance was a “dangerous pivot towards MAGA-style populism” and his “racist migration policy” is akin to “our shameful” White Australia policy of the past, and it warns the safe country list is designed “to fast-track rejections and strip asylum seekers of their right to an individual assessment based on their unique circumstances”.

Roberts also points out that the proposed establishment of the “Joint Agency Taskforce”, which would hunt down migrants without proper documentation, appears to portend “the creation of an ‘ICE-style’ taskforce”.

“Stripping legal aid and bypassing judicial oversight with an ICE-like taskforce isn’t ‘tough’, it’s a rejection of the rule of law,” the legal professional made certain in concluding.

“Making those who want to visit and join our community surrender their rights undermines all our rights and weakens Australian values at a time when we need them most”.
